Went to Screen Door for brunch and we all shared an order of breakfast corn dogs.
Yes. Breakfast. Corn dogs.
Breakfast sausage fried in cornbread batter with maple syrup for dipping.
I forgot to take a picture. Bad blogger!
To do: Go to Wy’east Pizza!
“Check out that camper above and tell me that that is not one of the coolest street-food vehicles you’ve seen in a long time. As far as I’m concerned, the New York hipsters rockin’ converted mail trucks and quilted-tin carts or the Seattle folks doing it in Airstreams ain’t got nothin’ on the street-vendin’ people of Portland, who seem to have gravitated toward some sort of aesthetic that’s more reminiscent of 1970s clandestine weed growers shacking up on federal land than of edibles.” -Adam Kuban, Slice
Oh, and the pizza is, apparently, fantastic.
Wow, I guess I have to make my own mozzarella now. The Tipsy Baker is very reliable. She is a no nonsense sort of lady. If she says that it was pretty easy and turned out absolutely amazing, you can bet it is.
My previous attempt at homemade dairy products-yogurt- didn’t really work out, but that was my own fault.
How amazing would it be to be able to make your own fresh mozzarella? I gotta get on this.

I have a very short list of foods I do not like. It used to be longer, but as I’ve grown older many of the things I once found unappealing have turned out to be delicious. Until recently my list of food I did not like looked like this:
I doubt I will ever like horseradish. I really, truly hate it. Just a little bit is enough to ruin an entire sandwich for me. I peel back the fish on my nigiri just to make sure they haven’t hidden any wasabi underneath. I really think it’s foul.
Chocolate I feel less strongly about. I will eat things that have chocolate in them if it’s not the star of the show and the other ingredients are sufficiently irresistible. Certain forms of chocolate are worse than other. Milk chocolate candy is not so bad. Chocolate ice cream or cake? Terrible.
Also, at this point in my life, my dislike of chocolate is important enough to my personality that I’m not even interested in trying to like it.
That brings me to peanut butter.
I’ve known for awhile that I was headed toward peanut butter acceptance. I like peanuts. Peanut butter cookies have been a-ok for many years. About 6 months ago I tried eating a spoonful straight from the jar.
Fantastic! It became a regular snack.
Still, I never went so far as to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Something about PB&J just seems depressing. It’s always pulled from the depths of some sad lunch sack, squished and deformed. The empty cupboard lunch. It did not tempt me.
But then, last night I had a dream. A beautiful, delicious dream. In my dream I went to the kitchen, took two pieces of bread and spread one of them in jam. The other I slathered generously with the chunky style peanut butter I purchased last week from Trader Joe’s. I put the pieces together and…
Well, it was perfect.
I woke up thinking about it. Is peanut butter and jelly an acceptable breakfast? Yes, I think so. It almost seems a more appropriate breakfast food than lunch.
I got myself a glass of water and went to the living room at watch Sunday morning TV for a bit. As I made myself comfortable on the couch my eyes fell to the coffee table, where sat a plate. A plate with a few tell tail drops of purple jelly and golden peanut butter…
It wasn’t a dream after all!
So, now I have to wonder… is peanut butter and jelly an acceptable breakfast when you already had one for a midnight snack?
Hm.
Now I need to think of something to make with all these pears. Maybe a tart?
Pickin’ pears in the backyard
… and then I eat a juicy, perfectly ripe peach like the one I’m eating right now and I remember; there are peaches, and then there are peaches.
So good.
Oh my gosh, look at this thing! Cipollini and Mushroom Tart from The Kitchn.
I am so ready for fall baking.
