I finally got around to turning the pillow case I bought awhile back into a skirt. Actually I didn’t do it. My mom did. She can do this sort of very simple sewing project in about 10 minutes. It would have taken me about 5 times as long and I probably would have ruined it.
The pillow case was for an extra long pillow, so we just doubled the fabric, which provided some much needed lining for the skirt, and added a casing for the drawstring.
Now that I know how easy this was I’m going to be keeping my eyes peeled for more cute pillow cases. Cheap clothes!

Cheerful!

My favorite of the ones I made.
Supplies:
- Dollar store fake flowers
- Various hair clips
- Needle and thread
- Krazy glue
Technique:
Initially we tried just gluing the flowers to the barrettes, but it wasn’t very secure. Instead we actually sewed the flowers to the clips, passing the needle though the plastic base of the blooms. We then added a few dollops of glue for good measure.
Expert tip: Wait for the glue to dry before putting the clip in your hair. Trust me.
I believe Kay got the idea from Katie, so kudos to her!

The other night I was out and about and I kept seeing cute girls wearing cute, springy outfits. And what was I wearing?
- 4 year old, filthy-ass converse
- Two different colored socks
- Jeans with holes in the knees and crotch.
- A sweater that had been nibbled on by the kitten. (The bra I was wearing had been nibbled by the kitten, too, but fortunately no one could see it.)
When did I become such a ragamuffin? When did I become a member of the cast of Oliver?? I need to get it together.
Unfortunately, the realities of my financial situation have recently hit home, due to certain $1,000 car repairs, so I’ve been on a strictly frugal budget.
But that doesn’t mean I have to look like shit, right?
This Craft article is about turning old pillow cases into cute little tops. I can afford that! I’m on it!
(I realize that wearing old pillow cases probably makes me more of an urchin… but if I do a good job no one will be able to tell.)

Whoa! Cute project alert!
Oh, wait. The needlepoint kit is $106?!?!
It’s $106 and you have to make the pillows yourself.
Nevermind.

Do you think if I order this pattern I will actually sew the dress? Hm… The answer is, of course, no. I don’t actually ever sew anything. I just imagine what it would be like if I did.
I imagine it would be great.

This Urban Outfitters skirt is cute and totally something I could make myself.

So, I borrowed my mom’s sewing machine and promptly hemmed up this skirt I bought at Goodwill awhile back. It had a lot of potential but an unfortunate mid-shin hem.
As it turns out, I didn’t really remember how to use the sewing machine. See that big knotty mess? That’s on the outside of the skirt. I’m hoping people will think I intentionally went for an edgy, deconstructed look.
